On twenty acres of his farm located in California City, (a town about one hundred and ten miles north of Los Angeles in the Mojave Desert) Mike Tyson, the famous boxing champ, is not cultivating almonds, nor is he growing strawberries. Mike Tyson is growing the currently number one farm product in California - Cannabis, more commonly known as marijuana. Tyson has admitted to using marijuana in the past and now wants to cultivate the derivatives of the Cannabis plant including cannabis oil. Since his farm is located a short drive from Edwards Air Force Base, Tyson wants to help the men and women who serve in the army. He is planning to operate a resort to be known as, Tyson Ranch.
California legalized marijuana in 2017 and both the San Francisco Gate and Washington Post news outlets reported on this new law. Fox News recorded recently that cannabis has the capability of being the next great business investment opportunity.
Cannabis oil is a thick liquid that is extracted from the cannabis plant for therapeutic reasons. It is generally taken orally for the best absorption and can also be rubbed into the scalp while shampooing. The words, marijuana, hemp and cannabis are used interchangeably but they are really distinct chemicals.
Here are the definitions of each of these chemicals, although similar in chemical makeups, contain very different levels of the active biomolecules producing very different body reactions.
They come from different parts of the cannabis sativa plant.
Cannabis is the overall plant family that includes both marijuana and hemp.
Hemp Oil is a type of CBD (cannabidiol) oil that has lower amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the part of the plant that stimulates highs. The method of preparing the hemp oil is a cold-pressed method to obtain the oil. Hemp oil is tested and regulated to make sure the THC levels are very low and minute. The higher the concentration of the chemical, Cannabidiol (CBD), the more effective the hemp oil is. (That is the reason why on some websites, like Amazon you will find prices much lower than ours). Hemp oil is legal in all fifty states. Many say it is equal and better than the controversial prescription painkillers, Oxycontin and Vicodin.
Marijuana is a part of the cannabis plant that has a high concentration of the mind-altering chemical, THC and is boiled and treated before it can be used.
The Amazing Story of Charlotte’s Web
To you avid readers as children, you will remember, Charlotte’s Web. This popular book tells the story of a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. However, our story takes place much more recently.
Once upon a time, a little girl named Charlotte was suffering from a rare form of epilepsy called, Dravet Syndrome.
Three months after Charlotte Figi was born her seizures began. As she grew older her seizures increased not only in frequency but in lengthiness as well. Her seizures accelerated as she got older to several times a day and lasting for several hours. When Charlotte reached her second birthday, she showed signs of autistic type of behavior and could not make eye contact with people. Sadly, by age three Charlotte could neither eat or talk, ending up in a wheelchair. It was at this point that her doctors diagnosed this rare form of epilepsy called Dravet syndrome. Her condition became so grave that her doctors put her into a medically induced coma because of severe and dangerous issues such as, her heart stopping, and over a hundred grand mal seizures a week. Seven different heavy-duty medications failed to help Charlotte. Her doctors had given up on her and her parents had nowhere to turn.
To Charlotte’s good fortune, her grandfather was doing his own independent research and came up with several success stories from parents who were using cannabis to treat their sick children. Having nothing to lose and everything to gain, Charlotte’s parents obtained R4 extract cannabis oil. The results were immediate, Charlotte had no seizures the first week after having up to three hundred seizures in one week alone in the past.
Since they needed large dosages of the cannabis oil, they contacted The Stanley Brothers who were legal dispensers of medical marijuana. Medical marijuana differs from illegal marijuana, because it is a mix of hemp and low THC cannabis. The ratio is thirty to one-meaning-high CBD and low THC content. This hybrid strain worked so well on Charlotte that it was named, Charlotte’s Web in her honor.
Another testimonial was from Heather Jackson whose son Zaki suffered from Doose syndrome a form of early childhood epilepsy. These success stories have become famous. Presently, Charlotte is living a normal life with a healthy prognosis with her seizures reduced to two or three times a month as opposed to up to three hundred grand mal seizures a week. Scientific studies have now shown increasingly that CBD can regulate epileptic seizures without the side effects of prescription medication.
When CBD enters the body, it induces the body to create more cannabinoids which are naturally present in the body. There are two types of cannabinoid receptors found in the body, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are primarily found in the brain and are engaged with dealing with pain, thinking, memory, appetitive, coordination and emotions. CB2 receptors are found in the immune system having an effect on inflammation and pain. When CBD goes into the body it causes the body to create additional cannabinoids of its own and this produces the benefits that doctors notice in many patients. Since CBD does not have the negative side effects associated with medical marijuana it is the perfect panacea for people and children who want their daily lives to be normal and unimpaired.
There are many other medical benefits of CBD for children, for example, Diabetes 1 and acne.
Dr. Jamie Richardson is another pioneer in the use of CBD. According to an article published on October 25, 2018, by James Kinsmen, five investors on ABC TV’s Shark Tank agreed to buy 39% of Richardson’s “miracle pain relief” formula for $2.9 million dollars. Dr. Richardson’s mother discovered CBD in Yuba City, California. His mother, Mary could barely control her debilitating arthritis pain which she endured for many years. After suffering two major strokes within a few months, Mary survived only to find that her arthritis was worse than before. After a year of searching she found CBD. At that time CBD was called a schedule 1 drug by the United States government-meaning she could face extensive jail time if she were ever caught. Luckily in the spring of 2017, CBD was downgraded by the government to a schedule 3 substance and could be freely used for medical and research purposes. That’s when Mary’s son, Dr. Jamie Richardson, applied for the first research grant every approved by the FDA for a clinical trial of CBD. Dr. Richardson was able to lead a clinical trial with the help of doctors from Harvard Medical School to study the effects of CBD on inflammation and pain. The results of their research were dramatic. They discovered many additional advantages of CBD.(Fox News)
It is important to know that CBD is also helpful for people who do not have serious medical conditions. It can help people with sleep problems, and reduce anxiety.
You may be surprised to hear that in this month’s Eating Well magazine, a mainstream publication, (November/December, 2018, page 50) there is an article titled, Is CBD Good for Anxiety? The article states that CBD increases a feel-good brain chemical, called anandamide. Dr. Esther Blessing, an assistant professor of psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine, announced excitedly, “I’ve never come across a drug as promising as CBD to treat such a range of neuropsychiatric disorders, including anxiety.”
CBD has already been researched and praised by reputable doctors and health care professionals.
Please consult your own physician to see if CBD and hemp oil would be right for you.
